Notice and Note is a well-known and widely-used closed reading strategy that helps students gain a better understanding of key elements in nonfictional text. I use Notice and Note in teaching my student annotating strategies. Notice and Note helps students build awareness that authors use signposts in their writing that help identify elements such as: main idea, point of view, unknown words, text organization, drawing conclusions, cause and effect, author's purpose, fact and opinion, etc.
This package includes:
1. A 32-slide PowerPoint with detailed explanations for each of the five signposts as well as multiple embedded video clip examples.
2. A note-taking page for students to complete while watching this presentation and keep as a reference for the year.
