Here is a terrific handout for students to hold in their binders to help them with journal entries using Kylene Beers’s Notice and Note close-reading strategy. I found that my students needed the wall charts as well as having something with them that they could refer to when they were not in the classroom. You will notice that I have done some modifications and have included a model at the end of the document. In the model, I do not use the first person pronoun I as I think that students find it difficult to rid themselves of the habit when writing a formal essay. If you disagree, you can cover it and copy the chart without.
