This is a great strategy to use with your Algebra students that will have them communicating, making connections, solving problems, reasoning, and increasing their perseverance in math class.
Students will be asked What do you notice? and What do you wonder? with five topics centering about slope, equations of lines and graphs of lines. Students are given time to Notice and Wonder. The teacher generates a class list of all the notice and wonder input. Now connections can be made to the lesson of the day. This strategy is so simple and fosters real change from the teacher asking all the questions in the classroom. All students participate. Instructions are included to help you learn the Notice and Wonder strategy. An answer key is not included because the answers will vary.
The Notice and Wonder strategy is easy to implement and can be used in other content areas. The set includes five Notice and Wonder activities that are ready to use. 1) Identify slope, 2) Discover slope from a graph and an equation of a Line, 3) Horizontal and Vertical Lines, 4) Parallel Lines, and 5) Perpendicular Lines
There are many uses for the Notice and Wonder strategy such as: a warm-up, a lesson introduction, as a transition between activities, an after-test activity, or as homework.
