Fun word puzzle based on The Turning, The Picnic, and Breakdown sections of the novel by Malorie Blackman (chapters sixteen to forty-two).
There are 33 words for students to find. After they find the words in the grid, a second task asks students to write a new sentence using each word, showing its importance in Noughts and Crosses.
I use this type of activity to take a breather from reading to the text, and to ensure that students are familiar with the vocabulary they will need when completing higher level assignments based on the novel. It's a good Friday afternoon activity, or useful for early finishers, or to give to a sub teacher. Students see the puzzle format as a fun task, and often don't even consider the second task to be difficult.
The solution is included.
