Product Description

Target the first tier of the language processing hierarchy with your older students using this naming/labeling/word retrieval unit!

The ability to identify and name objects is the first stage in the development of vocabulary. This is where we first see language development occur, as toddlers begin naming every object in their path! However, for students with language impairment, retrieving the word labels for even common items can be a struggle.

This unit was designed with older students in mind, using black & white text as stimuli without visual aids. A variety of activities are available, including sorting cards, worksheets, and task cards. Activities require both closed-ended answer and open-ended answers to target both expressive and receptive knowledge of naming/labeling.

- Matching Cards --- match noun labels to the corresponding definition clue

- Noun Sort --- sort various nouns by Person, Place, and Thing

- Give Me the Right Answer Worksheet (5) ---- 10 true/false statements per worksheet define common words

- Choose the Noun (5) --- an answer bank of nouns is used to complete sentences

- Fill in the Blank (5) --- complete a sentence using the appropriate noun

- Choose the Answer, Find the Word (1) --- story-based activity for defining and supplying appropriate nouns

- Compare and Contrast (5) --- compare and contrast common, related nouns

- Category Sticky Note Answers --- A selection of prompt cards are provided for students to list examples of using their sticky notes. Then, take turns discussing the answers as a group!

- Draw Your Own Noun Items --- A selection of prompt cards are provided for students to draw examples of.

- Narrative Writing (1) --- write a story using target nouns to show knowledge of definitions

- Task Cards (18) --- phrase completion, sentence completion, and riddle task cards for noun labels
