How it works:
Students are given a random letter of the alphabet and 3 minutes to write a noun that fits each category.
The student with the most categories completed when time is done is the winner.
You can modify this game to increase difficulty in several ways. One is if a student has the same word, the word does not count toward their points. You can also extend and allow for students to create alliterative phrases that have adjectives and adverbs (i.e. delectable donut). Each word would count as a point, so the longer the phrase the more points a student could earn.
Uses in the classroom:
This activity works great for whole class to reinforce the concept of a noun. It also helps expand vocabulary and can be used to teach alliteration as well.
You could also use this activity for days when you need a filler, and to file in your sub tub!
