There are only so many ways students can practice thinking about nouns. After you've done all the worksheets and sentence strips, try this fun activity!
Noun "Taboo" is styled after the popular game of word clues. Students receive clues to help them guess a mystery word, but each mystery answer lists five forbidden words that cannot be used as clues. In this case, all the mystery words are nouns! The game challenges students to think of noun answers as well as synonyms or alternate explanations for the forbidden words.
The PowerPoint format makes it easy to move from one mystery word to the next. Rules for a two-team game format are included; or students can simply pair up to see how many puzzles they can solve together. The activity is also suitable for literacy centers.
There are 65 word puzzles provided in this activity, and it's easy to add more if you wish. Enjoy the game!
