Nouns and their Jobs – Bundle is a comprehensive instructional tool for teaching how nouns are used in sentences. The bundle consists of a PowerPoint, engaging Practice Activities, and a three-part assessment.
The PowerPoint introduces three jobs nouns have in sentences: subject, object, and predicate nominative. Each is defined with student friendly language and example sentences. How to locate and decide a noun’s job in a sentence is explained. Interactive slides provide review of concepts and practice in identifying nouns and their jobs in sentences. Students are encouraged to take notes as information is presented. In addition, teaching tips are included as Comments for most of the slides.
There are two PPTs in the bundle. One is illustrated with Super Hero clipart by Revidevi and is read-only to protect the art. The other is savable with no clipart. However, both slideshows contain the same grammar content and interactive animation.
The three Practice Activities are designed to encourage cooperative learning as well as to get the minds and bodies of students on the go. Name That Noun Job pairs students to coach each other to identify the job of underlined nouns in sentences. Find the Location requires student pairs or individuals to move to a location in the room labeled with the noun job that matches the underlined noun on their sentence card. In the activity, Make a Match, students are given a sentence card with an underlined noun or a noun job card. Moving around the room to music, students must find a matching card.
Finally, the three-part assessment requires students to identify noun jobs in written material and to write sentences using nouns and identifying their jobs. For Part 1, students read a paragraph about a holiday tradition in which nouns are underlined. Students must identify the job of each underlined noun. In Part 2, students demonstrate their ability to write sentences using subjects, objects, and predicate nominatives. Finally, students locate sentences which contain nouns used as subjects, objects, and predicate nominatives from their independent reading books to complete Part 3.
