This is a wonderful novel that relates to students: have they ever had a negative situation that ended up working out for their good? The author Paulo Coelho was wrongfully committed to a mental institution by his parents three times, but that ended up saving his life! The novel also has many incidents of this nature, so reading this novel as a class makes for some interesting conversations.
