This download is designed as a foldable bookmark LOADED with questions/prompts that will help students think about their novel's literary elements as they read. It's perfect for reviewing literary elements, and it's awesome for students to see them in authentic literature. Students may fold this sheet and use it as a bookmark while reading.
Writing prompts and questions are included to review:
-characters and characterization (static/dynamic, major/minor, contribution to plot)
-point of view
-rhetorical strategies (irony, suspense, dialogue, foreshadowing, flashback, imagery, symbolism)
-and a separate section in which students are asked to write a brief "book blurb" to get a potential reader interested in reading their book
*instructions also specify that students must also cite evidence for all examples and quotes*
I generally require my students to select one novel from several that I offer each quarter. They are given this "bookmark" to complete before, during, and after their reading as an anchor activity. This download is in Word, so the bookmark is completely customizable. This is a great way to engage students reading since they're reading for enjoyment while also on the hunt for responses for their bookmark.
