Independent Reading at a student created pace
Small group independent reading at student created paced
Small group reading guided by the teacher
Whole class reading guided by the teacher

Each section has a specific task:

Vocabulary:

The students will be using the Frayer Model to study new vocabulary. The Frayer model is a vocabulary development tool. In contrast with a straight definition, the model helps to develop a better understanding of complex concepts by having students identify not just what something is, but what something is not. Students will also identify characteristics of the new word and give examples that support the definition.

Comprehension questions:

The questions come in two forms. The first form of question is multiple choice questioning. This form of question is looking for specific pieces of information.

The second form is your Who, What, Where, When, Why and How question. This form of questioning requires the analysis of information and events in the story. The student is required to explain an answer, respond as if they were in the story, or state what they think the character(s) should do.

The remaining sections are key components in studying literature in a detailed and meaningful way. The directions for each part are given within each section.
