Novel letters are designed to be written weekly, but can be implemented as frequently as you'd like!
Students are assigned independent reading as homework, but instead of completing a traditional reading log, students are assessed in their ability to WRITE in response to their reading. Using a friendly letter format, students describe the literary elements of their chosen novel: plot, setting, characters, conflict, etc.
This may be done as a technology incorporated lesson using Google Classroom, Google Docs, etc. in which students respond, comment, and give constructive criticism to their classmates letters.
