This book is an historic fiction novel for high school students. Winters is a masterful author creating the right balance between history and spine-tingling ghost story. The novel captures the world at war and the Spanish Influenza epidemic as the growing scientific inquiry collided with a heightened spiritualist curiosity.
The Novel Study contains a list of 130 questions (pages 1-5) including a separate answer page (pages 1-4). (The answers also have page numbers) These can be used to create a novel test or quizzes. These questions are in order of the novel and are only literal questions.
The novel would lend itself to some interesting class discussions about the believe in ghosts, do spirits of the dead haunt the living, and how war profoundly effects the soldier and their families. The teacher is free to create essay or inference questions within a novel test.
