    Description

This unit can easily be modified for use with any whole-class novel or student choice novel unit. This product includes:

    - chapter overview

    - character dossier with instructions for writing a character biography

    - illustrated timeline

    - book tasting menu

    - vocabulary study

    - Character One Pager

    - Thematic Art Project

    Table of Contents:

1.Chapter Overview- Students choose a chapter from their reading and create their own study guide.

2.Character Dossier- Students collect information about one of the main characters to create an information sheet.

    3. Illustrated Timeline- Students choose 15 events from the novel to put on this timeline, and they should illustrate 7 of the events.

    4. Book Tasting Menu- Use this to help your students choose a book for literature circles or student-choice novels.

    5. Novel Vocabulary Study- Students collect words that would be used on a vocabulary list as they read the book.

    6. Character One Pager- This assignment uses the one pager concept, but it focuses on a character from the reading instead of the whole piece. Great for assessing indirect and direct characterization.

    7. Thematic Art Project- Using theme, this art project challenges students to create a piece of artwork that symbolizes a theme present in their reading. Students must also choose a quote that is tied to this theme and is the driving force behind their art. Students must present their creation to the class and participate in a Socratic-type discussion in which the other students may comment, ask questions, and give observations about their artwork.
