Purpose of a Novel Study - "Reader's Bistro"
-The Reader's Bistro/Novel Study is another way to do book talks and can become a monthly event to really get your students excited to present about the books they have just read.
-It gets away from numerous presentations being done.
-It also allows for smaller groups so the intimidations or anxiety factor of a large scale presentation is taken away.
How to use this Novel Study- "Reader's Bistro"
-A few weeks before allow students to select a book to read for “Reader's Bistro” and set a date for all books to be read.
-Set the classroom to up resemble a Coffee house. This can be done however you want. Whether its with table clothes, soft acoustic music, you as the teacher wearing an apron.
-Split the class into small groups of 3 to 5 students depending on class size.
-Have the “Menu” at groups so the students can follow along with the questions they are suppose to answer about their book.
-The comment card is where the other students will and answer about the book presented to them. They will hand the comment card into you.
We have provided two "Menus" and "Comment cards" options so you can choose if you wish to assess students through written responses or orally.
