This novel study unit includes an original novel, Purple Storm, which explores the universal theme coming of age. This 4-6 week unit is a great way to have your students examine teenage issues such as friendship, self-image, honesty, and loyalty, among others.
Purple Storm is a full-length (over 42,000 words) novel targeted at young adults (13-17). It would not be appropriate for students below 7th grade and students over 17 may not identify with the characters. It is ideal for students in grades 8-10.
The unit includes a full unit outline with directions for activities and pacing, various content questions and discussion questions for each chapter, character summaries, an explanation of themes, motifs, and symbols, vocabulary lists by chapter, quizzes, and a test. (More information about this in the preview.)
The product includes the entire novel and the entire unit of study. The preview includes the prologue and the entire first chapter.
The novel, while original, has been read by many of my 9th grade classes who all enjoyed it immensely. They begged me to read it each day and wanted me to write more to continue after the end. I am sure it will engage your students as much as it did mine.
Files are in a .zip and are .pdf format. If you would like an editable version of the unit (not the novel), please contact me for details.
I strive for error-free products, but if you should notice anything in the novel or the unit, please contact me so I can revise the product immediately.
If you decide to purchase, please leave a comment about this product. Thank you for your business and feedback!
