Working in a predominantly African American Middle School, I have searched high and low for a novel that my students would really be able to understand and relate to. This is NOT easy. That is when I came across a brand new book from Jason Reynold called Ghost. NO, it is not a "ghost" story, however it is a story about a boy named Ghost. The voice that is portrayed in the book, I can hear coming from everyone one of my students. They struggle with the same backgrounds, and face the same challenges, which makes this Novel a MUST READ for the school year.
This unit of study accompanies the novel and covers the College and Career Readiness Standards. It was created to be a digital notebook but can also be printed out and given to your students.
Each chapter has a separate page that will walk your students through thinking more rigorously about the events that take place in Ghost's life. The standard that the chapter covers along with the directions for your students are already on the page.
If you have any questions do not hesitate to ask, I could talk all day about this book.
