This chart provides a way for students to organize their observations about the movie version of the classic 1967 novel The Outsiders, by S. E. Hinton.
Rather than "just watching a movie," students will be able to analyze it effectively by comparing and contrasting it with the novel. As a graphic organizer, this chart heightens the students' attentive responses and focuses their thoughts on how the messages of relationships and meaning in The Outsiders can be presented through different media.
The DVD for The Outsiders is available at Amazon.com and elsewhere. The 1983 version runs for 91 minutes. The 2005 version runs for 113 minutes because of extra scenes not included in the original production; the second version also uses different musical scores. This organizer works well with either version. (See online reviews to determine which one suits your needs.)
