Join the November Language Club to get a bundle of games at a reduced price! Each week I will update this product and you will receive a brand new language game (PreK-5th grade level) that you can use with your students.
Week 1 - Kid Detectives: Context Clues
These printable game cards are available in color and black and white. There are 28 context clue cards, 12 vocab card (use word in a sentence to show you know the meaning), and additional game cards included in this card game. Have students pick a card, listen to (or read) the card and decide what word would make sense to complete the sentence. If you get the “lost glasses” card, you lose a turn. You can play with just the cards or incorporate the game board (included). The number on each card can be used as point values or to determine the number of spaces to move on the game board. A game card template is included (both color and black and white) so you can add more game cards to this game if you want to! A NO-PRINT version of the cards is included as well as group and individual data sheets.
Week 2 - Just the Basics: Following Directions
This AMAZING activity pack is perfect for students on your caseload who need support in following directions and basic vocabulary skills. It’s also PERFECT for English Language Learners.
There are 15 picture boards included along with corresponding data sheets. The green and blue boards incoprate 2-step directions (e.g. Find the animal that is on the top) as well as an activity where students are asked to describe the target object/animal. The purple, yellow and red boards have students identify target vocabulary by description. I made these boards to be used as printables or as NO-PRINT activities - display them on a Smart Board with your whole class or on a tablet with a small group.
Use any of these cards for progress monitoring and/or bingo games, etc. There are also black/white cut-out activities that you can use for interactive notebooks or homework activities for your students.
Week 3 - RtI Language Intervention #1
***Weeks 1-3 only***
This 6-week intervention program is specifically designed for English Language Learners who are new to the country or for students with a specific language impairment that impedes their progress in the regular education curriculum. Targeted skills and strategies are appropriate for 2nd—5th grade but can be modified for any grade level (as determined by the educational team.
The main focus of this program is to increase English vocabulary (beginning with the most basic TIER 1 vocabulary and gradually getting more complex) while incorporating basic literacy skills that are critical for English literacy. The main focus of this program is NOT phonics; however phonics strategies are occasionally incorporated into this program to expose students to the academic language they may encounter in the classroom.
FRY sight words are also used in this program to target frequently occurring words that students will be exposed to in texts they use in the classroom. The purpose of these high frequency words in this program is to, again, develop English vocabulary, not specifically on reading these words (although the goal is to improve in both areas at the same time!).
There is a Weekly Overview and a variety of lessons and activities included for each week’s theme. Because the purpose of this program is to adapt to a variety of levels of ability and English proficiency, the pace of the program and activities chosen to use with students is determined by the interventionist or educational team.
This intervention tool was designed to use for an intervention group that meets 4 times per week for 45 minutes per session for a 6-week intervention cycle. Feel free to adapt lessons to fit your school’s intervention schedule or use pieces of the program to supplement other interventions you already have in place for your students.
Week 4 - Nutcracker Compare, Contrast and Category Exclusion
These printable game cards are available in color and black and white. There are 18 compare/contrast picture cards and 12 category exclusion picture cards included in this card game. There are also 6 BONUS game cards. Have students pick a card and complete the target language task. You can have them compare/contrast, identify what doesn’t belong and explain why or choose a picture to use in a sentence and/or define/describe. A NO-PRINT activity and group and individual data sheets are included in this pack!
