The original name for this assignment was "FCAT-Skills Style Questions," because the state Reading test in Florida used to be the FCAT. This assignment covers every single reading skill covered on the FCAT - many which are still covered on state Reading tests used in every state today.

Questions on this assignment focus on reading skills like main idea, compare and contrast, cause and effect, making inferences, drawing conclusions, text features, descriptive and figurative language terms, and synthesizing, analyzing, and making determinations based on text events.
All of the assignments for my November Blues unit were taught to a 9th grade Intensive Reading class, but can be used for other middle or high school grades.
These are not just basic questions about plot! Assignments for this unit are designed to guide reluctant readers through the novel, as well as focus on understanding and make deeper connections with the text.
