This packet includes writing activities for every day of November (with the exception of the Thursday and Friday of Thanksgiving week). November begins with a two week study on Native Americans. The students learn how to stay on topic, peer edit, and revise their work. The summative activity of these two weeks is that students will write an informative paragraph about a specific Native American topic (ex. hunting, food, etc.) without going off topic. The third week in November focuses on Pilgrims. Students learn about the specific jobs of Pilgrim boys and Pilgrim girls. The goal for this week is for the students to write a journal entry from the perspective of a Pilgrim boy or girl. The last week is about the first Thanksgiving. This week is intended to have some time in the computer lab. There are three really cool websites (one of which is a webquest) that will teach your students about the first Thanksgiving. The goal of this week is to write an narrative paragraph on the first Thanksgiving. Every single day is mapped out in a weekly planner! Look for December writing activities, which will be coming soon! As always, THANK YOU!!! These writing activities address Common Core Writing Standards 2, 5 ,7 and 8 for first, second and third grade. The standards and how they are met are listed on the last two pages of this file.
