"Nucleus" is a short story written by author Alex K. A. It is an adventure story that takes place entirely within an eukaryotic cell. The tale follows Rye the Ribosome and Vinny the Vacuole on their search for the cell's nucleus. On route, the pair encounter and learn the function of many of the cells key organelles, including the Golgi Apparatus, Lysosomes, Mitochondrion, Endoplasmic Reticulum, and the Nucleus itself. Also included are illustrations of each organelle depicted as cartoon characters, as well as a crossword puzzle and word glossary at the end. The story is around 40 pages in length, and can be read within the span of two class periods.
