These are math sheets that can be used a couple of different ways, to teach students some beginning addition and the different ways to arrive at a number. I made these so that my children could grasp and understand how the parts make the whole and so they could discover the different ways somewhat on their own.
A favorite way to use these at our house is to use counting bears and make up stories. [Such as, when using 5 for instance: 3 bears wanted to go to a movie and 2 wanted to go roller skating.] You will need two colors of "counters" to use it that way, unifix cubes could also work for this.
You can also laminate these and use dry erase markers (two colors for each student) to color in the squares.
