Shake and spill; decompose numbers; number bonds
Shake and Spill is an ENGAGING and FUN activity to teach students the different ways they can make a number. Students write an equation and show their work using number bonds.
All you need are counters and a cup and these recording sheets and you are all set to go!
Students shake a set number of counters in the cut and spill them. Students write and color each combination after they "spill" it.
These recording sheets can be used to show the different ways you can add the numbers 5, 6, 7, 8, 9 and 10. Students can play this game individually or with a partner. Students then write a number sentence and practice reading their number sentence to a friend (i.e., 6 and 4 make 10).
Differentiate your instruction - give struggling students lower numbers like 5 and 6 and give higher students numbers like 9 and 10
Decomposing Number Bonds Mat - a perfect center activity!
