This file contains the materials for a math center activity which examines number bonds. The number bonds help to build the understanding of part-part- whole or part-part- total. The materials in this activity are for addition facts from 1-10. The file includes number bond mats, spider manipulatives, number cards, and a spider recording sheet.
This math center activity is easily differentiated for the multiple ability levels in your classroom. The center allows for you to choose which numbers your students are working on as well as the difficulty level. Some students may need the spider manipulatives to figure out the math facts, while other students may be challenged by only being asked to use the numbers without manipulatives.
To use this center simply print the mats, manipulatives, number cards, and the recording sheets. You may choose to laminate these pieces or not. Then allow the students to work in groups, partners, or individually with a mat. The students can either use the spiders or just the number cards to complete the number bonds. While students work at this center they will gain a better understanding of part-part-whole or part-part-total. Students will begin to see the relationship between the numbers in the bond.
For accountability at the center, the students are asked to record 6 of the number bond combinations that they created. This recording sheet can be used with all ability levels.
My students love this center, and I hope that your students will love it as well. I hope that you enjoy this Angry Teacher Creation!
