Want to increase your students' concept of number? This set of 14 work pages (created on two ability levels - 2 pp. for each # from 4 to 10) have pictoral or visual representations of numbers in ten frames while asking students to physically create the counting dots in two colors and begin seeing it in a number bond relationship - two colors of the same # of dots equal the sum. Students then write the numerals to represent the same amounts in a language based number sentence. Eventually, this understanding will transfer into abstract knowledge of number bonds and further solidify understanding of fact families. Teachers are encouraged to start prior to this with an exposure to ten frames and manipulatives (preferably two sided for two colors) and offer the manipulatives during the lesson for those whom it may help.
