Shake and Spill Number Combinations 11-20
My kids love making number combinations, and it's a HUGE part of our Common Core Standards! This makes an awesome math center! Numbers 11-20 are included in this pack.
I've also included math journal prompts to give kids more practice with making number combinations!
You can find numbers 3-10 here.
Or, purchase a combo pack with numbers 3-20 here.
To use this activity in your classroom, you'll need red/yellow counters and small cups.
To Play: Depending on which number your students are making combinations for, give them that number of red/yellow counters in a small cup.
For example, when making combinations of 12, students should be given12 counters in their cup. Students will shake and spill out the counters, then lay them on their twenty frame. (Some kids will not need to lay their counters out and can skip this part.) They will count how many are red and how many are yellow. They will record the red and yellow on the twenty frame by coloring the circles, then fill in the equation to show their number combination!
This is an extension to Common Core Standard K.OA.3 Decompose numbers less than or equal to 10 into pairs in more than one way, e.g., by using objects or drawings, and record each decomposition by a drawing or equation (e.g., 5 = 2 + 3 and 5 = 4 + 1).
