This is a simple activity for learning the meaning of numbers 3-10. Students count out and combine vehicles to form number quantities. Learning number combinations is an important pre addition skill for young children. This activity is fun and engaging as children manipulate cars/vehicles to create a number. This activity is engaging for all young children because of the hands on nature of combing two groups of vehicles to create a number.
Included are road sheets for numbers 3-10, a sheet of vehicles, a sheet for students to add on, and a road sheet that has no numbers on it. Each road sheet has a number at the top. During play students will count out that many vehicles. They will arbitrarily divide their vehicles between two cul-de-sacs, count how many vehicles are in each cul-de-sac, and write the two numbers on their adding sheet. Next, they will ‘drive’ all the vehicles along the two roads to a top cul-de-sac. Then, they will count the vehicles and write the product on their adding sheet.
