This activity for the SMART Board allows students to practice different ways of decomposing (or composing) numbers 3-10. The student moves the objects into 2 groups on the divided workspace and then moves numbers to represent the combination. For example, 3 can be represented as 0 and 3, 1 and 2, 2 and 1, or 3 and 0.
This may be implemented as a teacher-directed activity OR an independent one. When using independently, students can check all possible combinations by moving the black box over the colorful one.
An example page is included in the free preview for this listing. You may push "play" to see how the activity may be implemented.
