There are 6 sets of number cards already pre-sorted by color and shape. The 7th set is blank for your own use if you’d like more. There are 24 cards in each set that reinforce the number that comes before, next, and last in a sequence of numbers. Part 2 will be in a separate listing for numbers 9-20.
The purpose of this game is to reinforce rapid number recognition. The cards can be easily adapted into a number writing activity when laminated.
Game 1: The students work in partners or at a center. Show the number card and the partner has to rapidly identify the number that comes next. If the number is correct, they obtain a “winning token” (I use pebbles). The person with the most tokens wins the game.
Game 2: The game can be played like Top it. Partners take turns showing a card from the pile and the person who says it firsts keeps the card or obtains a winning token. The person with the most tokens or cards wins the game.
Game 3: The students work in partners or at a center. They use little expo markers (the skinny kind) to write the number that comes before, next, or last. Then they transfer the numbers to the coordinating worksheet to be checked by the teacher. If all of them are correct, they receive an incentive of your choosing (or if they are really close). Kindergartners and first grades will work for any incentive
