This is a set of 45 self-checking puzzles!
Students will match the equation to a number line. Each puzzle is unique- students know their answers are correct when the pieces match!
how to play
Mix the puzzle pieces up.
Students might consider creating two stacks of pieces: one stack for number line pieces and the other for pieces with equations.
Choose one number line piece. As a group, discuss what math is represented on the number line.
Find a matching equation and place the puzzle pieces together.
All puzzle pieces have only one match- students will know they are correct if the pieces fit together.
Which equations will result in an even/odd number? What addition patterns create even/odd sum?
Sort the puzzles by sum: greater than 5, less than 5, equal to 5.
Which sums have the most equations? Why is that?
Create related subtraction equations. Represent them on a number line too.
Choose three puzzles. Write real world stories to match the equations and number lines.
