This product was created in response to the need to scaffold student learning as they struggled with fractions on a number line. This product will walk student step by step systematically providing them with supports to move from identifying fractions on a number line to making a representation of the fraction with circles and writing the fraction representing a number greater than 1.
Print pages 4-16. They may be printed two sided or single sided and then run through a copy machine two sided.
Staple the pages into a booklet with the staples on the left side of the landscape edge.
Cut the packet horizontally in thirds. This will give you three mini booklets to use during small group math instruction or as an independent activity.
I used “Number Banks” in the same way that a word bank would be used in reading/writing instruction. The students will use the number bank to fill in the number lines. When the book is laid open and flat, the left side of the booklet is the resource for the right side of the booklet. I placed icons on each set of coordinating pages to ensure that the correct pages are used together to support the scaffold of instruction. This will assist in the event that two sided copying is not an option. The pages are used in tandem to support the concepts.
