This train is a fun way to get students more experienced with ordering numbers and number lines.
Students will cut out the train cars. Put the train in order from zero to twenty. Glue the train onto sentence strips. Each train requires two sentence strips.
Please note the layout is designed for printing a class set. Each student should receive one full page of 1-20 rail cars and one number zero engine card.
When students have completed their 0-20 number line trains, have students color the train cars per adult directions. For instance, teacher might direct students to "color the number 18 red" or "color the number 7 blue." This creates a mini assessment and helps teachers to reinforce number identification. Students who know their numbers well can simply find the number and color it. Struggling or beginning learners can start at zero and count up to the directed number.
Math Center Activity:
This activity can be printed on card stock and laminated to create a fun train themed center activity. Draw a train track onto two connected and laminated sentence strips. Then attach a velcro strip down the center of the track. Attach the other half of the velcro to the back of each card. Have students stick the cards to the train track to practice ordering numbers.
Ages: This activity is designed for Pre-K through Kindergarten. Younger students may require assistance with cutting out the train cars.
