This is an activity to help with CCSS 2.MD.6 - adding and subtracting on an open number line.
Your students will be given two sets of cards; one have equations and are labled with letters. The others show number lines and are labled with numbers. Your students need to match the number line cards (which show the starting number and jumps of 10 and 1 to represent addition and subtraction) to the corresponding equation cards. There are 12 pairs in all.
Once all of the cards are matched, they will then fill out the included recording sheets. These are set up as half sheets and so you can print them back to back. The side with the numbers and arrows asks the students to write down the letter that matches each number. (From the matching cards. The other side shows letters and asks them to solve and write down the answer to the equations.
This center worked really well for my students in helping them understand how to represent addition and subtraction problems on a number line. It took my students a few days worth of centers to cmoplete the entire activity, but it was great practice and they were very engaged!
