Here's the description for the full product:

Number lines provide a visual which helps deepen a student’s understanding of addition and subtraction. This product contains materials for introducing or reviewing number lines as well as differentiated exercises for practicing the use of number lines for addition and understanding number sentences.

I created these materials for students in my first grade classroom. When using them, I noticed several things: my students became comfortable using number lines, they frequently used the number lines on their desk nameplates to help solve problems in their daily work, even my struggling math students understood “addition,” and an added benefit – their fact fluency improved!

Students begin by building a class number line, acting out addition number stories, and then moving on to written practice. In this practice, the children start by counting up both numbers on number lines. Next, they use the counting-on strategy, beginning with the larger addend. Finally, students are asked to look at jumps on a number line and come up with the addition number sentences that are being illustrated.

To further deepen understanding, I added a unique feature to my number line practice pages: a cloze activity for each problem. Not only are students asked to show the movement on the number lines and answer addition problems, they are asked to fill in blanks in sentences to explain their thinking.

For extra fun, practice, and an opportunity to get up and move around the classroom, I’ve included a SCOOT activity. (Can also be used as task cards.)
