This is spring themed math workstation designed to help students work on early numeracy skills such as counting and number identification. The activity was designed to meet the Kindergarten common core standards however would also be appropriate for pre k and grade one students. While engaging in this activity, students will be practicing early number concepts such as counting, one to one correspondence, and number identification.
In this center, students select a card which has a number between 1 and 20 on it. There are five different sets of cards each showing a different representation of the numbers 1-20 (tally marks, tens and ones, addition, numeral, number word and ten frames). Once the student has identified the number they can then create that particular number of rain drops or umbrellas etc on their play dough work mat. For those who do not wish to use play dough, I have also included three pages of picture counters/manipulatives that you can use instead. I have also used dry erase markers and had my students draw the pictures on the work mats.
The materials in this set also work great as a pocket chart matching activity, to use during whole group instruction or to use as a memory matching activity!
