The Number Race Game is a highly interactive team game in which students compete to be the first team to correctly form two, three, four, or even five digit numbers. My students love this game, even my reluctant participators! I usually play this with my fifth graders, though third and fourth grade students also catch on quite easily and do well with two digit numbers. This game can be played in Spanish, English, French, Italian, German, and many other foreign languages.
Included in the 18 page packet are 30 half-sheet number cards: the numbers 0-9 in red, blue, and yellow. This allows for up to three teams and 30 students to play at the same time. Also included are instructions for game play and a suggested list of two, three, and four digit numbers, carefully crafted to allow all students to participate frequently no matter which single digit number they are holding.
Not only is this game great for practicing numbers in a foreign language, it also works well for reinforcing place value and allows teachers to assess student comprehension at the same time.
