A number scroll is a wonderful way for children to practice writing their numbers, place value, and recognizing patterns.
The children are working at their own speed so it is great for differentiation.
I have had many great teaching moments using number scrolls.
We had an mini-lesson on larger numbers past 100 using a place value chart when our first student got to 1,000.
I have worked individually with a student to help him see what changes when a number goes from 99 to 100 and 199 to 200 to help him determine what number comes after 299.
It has been fantastic for verbalizing numbers without the “and” in the middle…..two-hundred forty-three INSTEAD of two-hundred AND forty-three.
I hope you and your students enjoy using it as much as we do.
Thank you so much!
