Number sense is an important skill for all early learners to develop and master. It is the foundation for all mathematical thinking and the base for more complex computations. To develop a sound number sense, children need have fluidity and flexibility with numbers.
To develop a sound number sense children need to be able to instantly recognise a number in many different forms and representations. These cards explore numbers 1- 10 in a variety of contexts to promote automatic recognition and flexible thinking in number.
There are two versions of the Number Sense Cards included in this download, one black & white and one colour. There are 6 different representations for each number 1-10:
The use of these cards as a classroom resources is endless! Use the cards to play Snap or Memory. Use the cards as a sorting activity, children group all representations together.
Use the cards as flash cards to prompt automatic recognition. Use the cards as displays on a maths walls. Send copies of the cards home for homework, the list is endless!
