It's important for students to know number sentence equivalents when adding and subtracting integers. For example, student must recognize that
-3 + -1 = -4 is the same as:

-1+ (-3) = -4
-3 -1 = -4
-1 -3 = -4.

This activity will provide students with the practice needed to master this skill. In addition, students must explain why the commutative property of subtraction does NOT exist. An answer key is included with this activity.
