This unit of study has been designed to introduce your students to a procedure that they can use when solving any story problem. When solving a story problem, students will get practice sketching out the story, identifying key (clue) words, locating the question, providing an equation, and solving the problem with an answer and a label. They will also gain experience working together in small groups where each person has an assigned job that they must complete in order to solve the problem.
Included in this unit are:
-anchor chart labels
-story problem cards to use in whole group lessons practicing both addition story problem skills and missing addend story problem skills
-printable versions of number story mysteries to use both in cooperative group practice and as an end of unit assessment
-a partner game which focuses on reading story problems and identifying the operation needed to solve them
