This activity challenges students to solve number stories by focusing on the type of story problems they are solving using what I like to call the S.M.A.D. Tables (subtraction, multiplication, addition and division) tables. They will be choosing between a grouping, comparison, start/change/end and part/part/total diagram. It also asks kids to identify the unknown part of the problem before choosing a strategy for solving.
This particular activity focuses completely on money story problems. It has a variety of problems for the kids to solve and work through. These problems focus on addition and subtraction. They are intended for beginning of third grade or end of second grade.
