Do you use number talks in your classroom? Do you want to but don't know how to get started? This is the resource for you! This is the first unit of many for my first grade number talks. This is a great way to build number sense in our primary grades. Each lesson is meant to be short 5-10 discussion daily. Here is what is included:
-20 lessons on decomposing numbers up to 10 in various ways (ten frames, dot patterns, dominos etc.)
-20 student recording sheets that you can use to display in your classroom. These are NOT individual recording sheets - number talks is the strategy of students using their words to explain their thinking.
- 5 lesson plans (great for subs) that go with the lessons. The lessons are broken into sections as listed below.
- 7 posters to help students understand and start conversations about their learning as well as displaying them in the room (these posters are the same as unit 1 if you already purchased them).
Lessons 1-9: Subitzing dots in groups to foster equation understanding.
Lessons 10 and 11: Rekenreks
Lessons 12-15: Suiting dots in a double tens frame
Lessons 16-20: Number bonds up to 15 - specifically missing addends
