The cover is fun and whimsical, but this packet is appropriate for students 6th grade through adult. Students will learn how to simplify fractions while understanding GCF, prime numbers, composite numbers, prime factor trees, and equivalent fractions. Examples and practice problems can be worked by the instructor and students during lecture or independently by students for review. The concepts presented include:

• Finding Greatest Common Factor by listing all factors for a set of numbers and comparing

• Using a Divisibility Rules Chart to determine factors

• Practicing fraction multiplication, breaking fractions into factors, and dividing out common factors

• Rewriting a fraction using GCF and remaining factors, then dividing out common factors

• Writing Prime Factor Trees

• Rewriting a fraction using Prime Factors, then dividing out common factors

• Finding the GCF using common Prime Factors found in the numerator & the denominator.

• Simplifying fractions using both Greatest Common Factor and Prime Factors.

• Determining if two fractions are equivalent by simplifying both fractions and/or using cross product.

Solutions are provided in a duplicate of the problem packet with the answers filled in.
