This packet contains activities to help students learn number words and the numerals and amounts they represent. It combines counting and number recognition with number word recognition and handwriting practice. More advanced activities involve sentence writing with number words and even creating addition sentences. This center can be easily updated for several weeks of use as students’ skill levels increase.
- Print, laminate and cut out the number word cards—with and without the words. (Punch holes in each set and put on rings for easy access.)
- Students count the number of stars on the blank lined cards and find the correct number on the number word cards.
- Then they practice writing the numeral and word on the lines provided using a dry erase marker.
Once students are ready, there is an assessment page included (2 per page, to save the trees!) and awards for your students who achieve mastery.
As skills improve there are smaller cards to use (with and without number words) for students to write sentences including the number word they choose. They can also build addition sentences the same way.
It's a very flexible work station, with many options for adding more challenge as students are ready.
