I designed this activity to use for early finishers or during a RAP (Review and Practice) segment. I copy both pages front to back and keep it in a basket at the front of my classroom.
The front page of this activty has students show the following using the Number of the Day:
~even or odd
~2 addition and 2 subtraction problems with the Number of the Day as the sum or difference
~+10, -10, + 1, -1
~number name (word form of number)
The back page of this activity challenges students to write at least one word problem where the Number of the Day is the answer. This part of the activity requires students to employ their HOTS (Higher Order Thinking Skills) to write their own adding to, taking from, putting together, taking apart, and comparing problems with unknowns in all positions.
