This Number of the Day Binder will help your students strengthen their place value understanding through daily place value modeling and reasoning routines. The pages of this binder are designed to be printed once, inserted into page protectors and stored in ½ binders for daily use throughout the school year. You can use this binder as a daily math warm up, daily bellwork or as a center for math rotations.

All activities in this Number of the Day Binder are designed to use with numbers between 100-1,000. Simply pick a new number each day and send your students on their way to build place value skills in their reusable binder.

Page 1
Show the number of the day using place value blocks and use reasoning skills to figure out how many tens are needed to make the number of hundreds found in today’s number and how many ones are needed to make the number of tens found in today’s number.

Write the number of the day in a place value chart. Record the number in standard form, expanded form and word form. Identify and record the value of the ones, tens, hundred and thousands place.

“Writing Numbers In Different Forms” reference page. Provides information about expanded, standard and word form and includes a word list of number words.

Determine if the number of the day is odd or even. Skip count forward and backward by 10 and 100, using today’s number as a starting point. Mark today’s number on a number line.

Rearrange the digits in today’s number to make new numbers with different values. Compare the new numbers to today’s number using standard comparison symbols.

Exercise skip counting fluency by skip counting by fives, tens, and hundreds using the number of the day as a starting point.

Use spinners to determine which multiples of 10 or 100 will be added/subtracted to/from today’s number. Order the sums/differences from least to greatest and from greatest to least.

Count coins and bills by circling coins and bills that, when added together, have a value equal to today’s number.

“How Much Is It Worth?” reference page. Provides information about the value of each coin and how many of each coin are needed to make one dollar.

Record today’s time in analog and digital format. Record the time one hour prior to today’s time and one hour from today’s time. Record an activity that would reasonably be done in the A.M. and P.M. hours at today’s time. Calculate how many minutes will pass from the today’s time until the next full hour.
