TEACHER DIRECTIONS/TIPS: To create the number, write today’s date in numerical form! For example, December 28, 2009 would be written as 12,282,009 or 122,809 depending on how many digits you want in your number. Print the following recording sheet for each student and use as ‘bell ringer’ or center activity OR project on big screen and do as a class. Either way, this is a practical way to incorporate numeracy into your daily calendar routine. It’s fun to see students begin predicting the next day’s answers as they see the patterns emerge. They also get really excited when the month/year changes! This can be done with many different grade levels and is available in a completely editable format so that you can customize the activity.
