If you teach Number the Stars, you will want to use these great chapter questions to help guide your students in their reading comprehension. Each chapter has between 8 and 12 questions, all in a shot answer format. There is no answer key, as students will develop a variety of answers based on textual evidence. I suggest grading these as a completion grade after using them to guide class discussions of what happened in the chapter.
You can also use these questions as literature discussion guides, giving your students something to work through before their group meets again. They work great as short reading comprehension quizzes as well as an independent guide to the book.
These chapter questions are all part of my Number the Stars Novel Unit. This unit comes with everything you need to teach this book – detailed lesson plans (by chapter, not day), student journal with TONS of graphic organizers and writing prompts for reading comprehension, middle and end of the book test with answer keys and a symbolism project complete with a rubric for easy grading. You don’t want to miss out on this great unit plan!
