To support comprehension of this historical fiction text, I created comprehension questions (both inferential and literal) for each chapter. Each night, I required my students to read a chapter and then respond to the questions in their Reader Response journals. The questions were designed with special education students in mind, but could also be used with a general education population. Questions are geared toward addressing fifth grade CCSS that require students to make inferences after and while reading. I have also included the answer key and a notice to parents/guardians to inform them of the expectations for answering questions and the pace at which the novel will be read.
